The beneficial effects of the X-rays in the treatment of leukaemia are now well known ; unfortunately, they do not seem to be permanent. Although a cure is not to be expected, very decided improvement results for a considerable time. Cases of myeloid leukaemia do best. The most striking effect of the X-rays is a rapid reduction of the number of white cells, especially of myelocytes, in the blood, generally, but not invariably, accompanied by a remarkable shrinking of the enlarged spleen and a concomitant improvement in the general condition.
